Please be aware that most sunscreen brands are highly damaging to our coral reefs. Please refrain from bringing sunscreen unless you are certain that is is "Reef Safe." Instead, stop at a local grocery store or surf shop upon arrival or do some googling and order ahead to buy from a trusted brand. Our favorite brand is Little Hands Hawai'i and you can find it at Backdoor Surf Shop in Hanalei. There are also many handmade local products at the farmer's markets. Watch out for big brands like Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic and Banana Boat, as they have now come out with new "reef safe" products, but sadly they still contain many chemicals that damage reefs and have only swapped out one or two chemicals for an alternative that is just as harmful to coral ecosystems.
